HATCH at Home: Kaitlin Ross Milich
We recently had the pleasure of getting to know a few HATCH mamas in real life here in New York City. They invited us into their homes, at all stages of pregnancy (and postpartum!), to chat through the different ways they arrived at motherhood, their highs and lows, and their go-to pregnancy beauty products. Above all else, they kept it real real. And that’s what we love most about our HATCH community.
This week, meet new mom Kaitlin Ross Millich. Learn how she switched up her beauty routine once she decided she wanted to start trying, her go to pregnancy style, and her favorite perk of being preggo.
Describe your path to pregnancy.
I’ve always wanted to be a mom and decided to start trying a little over a year after I got married. I knew that getting pregnant right away can be difficult and anticipated that it might take a while. I’m a planner and it was hard for me to not be able to “schedule” when I got pregnant, but I channeled my energy into researching everything from prenatal vitamins to OBs to pregnancy-safe beauty products in preparation. I was fortunate enough to get pregnant early on in the process, so I was glad I took the time to get organized beforehand.
What surprised you the most about motherhood?
How much work it is! It’s a 24/7 job. I have so much respect for all mothers now that I know what it entails.
How did your beauty routine change after getting pregnant?
I swapped out all of my beauty products for clean, non-toxic ones even before I knew I was pregnant. I was also much more diligent about taking care of my skin – especially my face – since it felt like the one part of my body that I could have some control over.
Advice to your pre-mama self?
Sleep late, travel, and go out to nice restaurants as often as you can. These are all things that I took for granted that now seem like a luxury!
Your pregnancy style in one word.
Comfortable. I was pregnant during the summer in New York when it was incredibly hot, so I was all about wearing things that were loose, airy, and comfortable. My sister had been pregnant just before me, so she gave me a few of her staples from HATCH like The Walkabout Jumper and The Long Body Tank Dress that I wore on repeat.
What did you LOVE about being pregnant?
Feeling baby kicks – and skipping people in line for the bathroom.
Anything else you want to add!
Many of the aforementioned clean beauty products I swapped to when I was pregnant continue to be a consistent part of my routine — I realized that going “non-toxic” just makes me feel better about what I am putting on my skin, and that is important to me whether I’m pregnant or not!
