HATCH at HOME: Sarah Abt

We recently had the pleasure of getting to know a few HATCH mamas in real life here in New York City. They invited us into their homes, at all stages of pregnancy (and postpartum!), to chat through the different ways they arrived at motherhood, their highs and lows, and their go-to pregnancy beauty products. Above all else, they kept it real real. And that’s what we love most about our HATCH community.

This week, meet Sarah Abt as she shares her thoughts on new motherhood, embracing pregnancy style, and motherly intuition.

  Describe your path to pregnancy.

My husband and I decided to start trying soon after our third wedding anniversary in October. We were super lucky — by the beginning of February, I was pregnant with Charlie!

What surprised you the most about motherhood/pregnancy?

It shouldn’t be surprising since it’s so common in life, but with both pregnancy and motherhood, the days are long but time flies. So it feels like I’ve known Charlie my whole life, while at the same time, it feels like he just got here!

How did your beauty routine change after getting pregnant?

I made an effort to use more natural beauty products, and typically wore less makeup (tried to embrace that pregnancy glow!). Getting acupuncture also really helped me feel more relaxed and refreshed.

Advice to your pre-mama (or pre-pregnancy) self?

Don’t get too stressed over trying to learn everything there is to know about taking care of your baby — trust yourself and know that things will come naturally!

Your pregnancy style in one word:

Fun! I loved having the opportunity to wear clothes I might not necessarily wear otherwise, like jumpsuits and overalls. Also leggings, lots of leggings.

What do you LOVE about being pregnant?

I loved feeling so close and having a special connection to my baby — it was such a crazy and awesome experience being able to feel him kick and move around!
