When we set out to create a collection of office-friendly essentials for your bump, AND your hustle, we figured who better to partner with than J.Crew. Amirite!?

Then, we got to thinking, how do our favorite powerhouse mamas and mamas-to-be manage the 9-5 grind (to be clear, by “9-5,” we mean sunrise to midnight because let’s be real) and still look cute doin’ it? Here, TV Host/Author/Chef Daphne Oz, The Wing Co-Founder/CEO Audrey Gelman, and Fashion Director Rajni Jacques share how they get it done, (and what they’re wearing doing it), whether pregnant or pumping.

TV Host, Author, and Chef

Unofficial title

Mommmyyyyyyy mommy mommy mommy (also, Chief Feeder & Storyteller)

Wake-up time?

6:30 AM. I wish there was still a snooze button that worked on my life, but no such luck. By 6:30 AM my entire house is noisy.

Go-to breakfast?

Sliced avocado on toasted Ezekial bread with a drizzle of olive oil and flaky salt…add a 6 minute boiled egg and green hot sauce if I’m feeling indulgent/have more than two minutes to eat something. I also love a smoothie on hot summer mornings especially since I can make them in my sleep and drink them one handed/on the go.

@work style mantra?

Professional and feminine. Big fan of monochrome. Plus, must have a waist.

Love most about being a working mom?

I’m a big believer that whatever makes us feel happy and fulfilled, we should let our kids see and celebrate so they know what to aim for in their own lives. I love that my kids see me have fun with my work, do my best, challenge myself, and be open to new opportunities to grow.

Most challenging aspect?

There is never enough time to do everything. Shuffling priorities and obligations is a constant work in progress. The most important thing to me is how I make my kids feel when I’m with them: I want them to know how much I love them, how much fun I have with them, how proud and grateful I am to be their mommy, and how special they are to me every second we’re together…even if some days that isn’t nearly as much time as I’d like.

I love being a mom and I love what I do! I recognize that the scales shift and some days I’m going to be an A mom and a B wife and a C employee and a D friend, and then the next day it could all recalibrate and I have the opportunity to do better. It definitely keeps me on my toes!

Go-to power look?

Jewelry, makeup (cat eye! lashes!) and heels make an outfit. Plus, an amazing coat ties it all together.

Working-mama hack?

I’ve streamlined my wardrobe with a few choice outfits I know make me feel good and help me put my best face forward. And on days when I’m not shooting, I’ve embraced the touched untouched hair look — I take good care of my hair in the shower/with masks, let it air dry, and then use a little finishing cream on the ends to give it a bit of texture. Saves me tons of styling time!

60-second outfit?

Loose mini dresses and sneakers this pregnancy, or tailored jeans, a white shirt, plus a great jacket, and pumps. And, jewelry..always!

Your maternity style in one word?

Flexible. Some days, I really need to live in sweats. But this pregnancy, more than any of my others, I’ve found amazing dresses and jumpsuits which  have kept me cool through the hot months and made it easy to look put together quickly (ugh, I can never keep it to one word).

#1 morning time-saving tip?

Unkempt hair! I am really embracing the healthy, touched untouched look.

Best part of your morning routine?

Kisses from my hubby and babies!! And, a perfect cup of caffeine: either a whole milk cappuccino (extra hot) or an iced green tea.

Spend your commute?

Either on work calls (so I can kill two birds with one stone) or listening to podcasts because I’m obsessed! These days I’m into The Daily, RadioLab and How I Built This. Plus, ( a little shameless self-promotion) check out our podcast Mom Brain if you like a gab sesh with friends about the weird and wonderful world of being a mom today. Lastly, I’m about halfway though Where The Crawdads Sing.

Fave way to unwind, after work, or on the weekend?

After work, my favorite is bath time and popcorn on the couch with a movie. On the weekends, I’m at the farmer’s market and then cooking a beautiful meal with family, ideally to be eaten outside.

Wake-up time?

6:30 AM, after hitting snooze no less than 6 times.

Go-to breakfast?

Iced coffee and corn muffin.

@work style mantra?

The magic is in the details.

Most challenging aspect?

The playbook for working moms – particularly for women who lead their own fast-growing companies – is still being written. At The Wing, we created a childcare space called The Little Wing for our members and staff. The majority of our executive team are mothers of young children and it’s common for one or more of the senior women at our company to be pumping in an executive meeting. Normalizing the responsibilities of parenthood and making it okay to integrate into the workplace is the way you can build supportive and affirming workplace culture for parents.

Pregnancy style?

Comfort above all else. I really respect people who can maintain street-style caliber wardrobes during pregnancy but for me it’s most important to be super comfortable at all times.

Hardest career decision you’ve had to make related to motherhood?

Dialing down the breakneck pace and travel that has become a part of my job has been the most important boundary I’ve set for my own wellbeing. In the last few months I’ve had to slow down my travel and empower my co-founder and our other leaders to take the lead for me at new Wing openings. It’s physically impossible to do everything you normally do when you are creating another life, and that is totally okay.

Best part of your morning routine?

Quiet time to catch up on emails.

Spend your commute?

Catching up on yesterday’s Brian Lehrer Show on WNYC or  listening to Kara Swisher’s Pivot podcast.

Fave way to unwind, after work, or on the weekend?

Watching episodes of British mysteries on Britbox.

Unofficial title?

Fashion Director & Creative Lead

Wake-up time?

Around 7:00 AM.

Go-to breakfast?

Smoothie and maybe hard boiled egg…if I’m lucky.

@work style mantra?

Red lip (always), lots of color, denim, and a heel.

Love most about being a working mom?

The duality.

Most challenging aspect?

Attempting not to feel guilty about not always being around.

Managing work and momming?

Every day is different. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes a fail. But I always make sure there is a balance to keep me sane.

60-second outfit?

Jeans plus anything else, because denim is always in the mix.

Your mama-of-two style in one word?

Same. As. Before. (3 words, ha!)

#1 morning time-saving tip?

Figure out what you are wearing the night before.

Best part of your morning routine?

Kisses from the little ones as soon as their eyes open or mine.

Spend your commute?

Listening to music… always.

Fave way to unwind, after work, or on the weekend?

Just being alone. Even if it’s for 15 minutes.
