Haute Mama

Molly Fienning

In a crowded and competitive market, one amazing mama sought to fill a glaring hole and found her place in the sun. Entrepreneur, mother and HATCH fan, Molly Fienning is one of the Co-Founders of the ‘it’ children’s sunglasses brand, Babiators. Her idea to produce durable shades for the under 7 set quickly transformed into a booming business. Here, the successful mama-of-two to Sawyer and Fox opens up on her personal style, and motherhood.

HATCH/Describe your style in 6 words or less.
Flirty with a nipped-in waist.

HATCH/How has your fashion sense changed since baby (or since you got pregnant)?
My style has actually become a little edgier since I became a mama. Having my sons helped me realize that life is too short not to play with fashion.

Molly is wearing the Off-Shoulder Jersey Top and the Indochine Pant.

HATCH/Mother/Child matching, yea or nay?
I have all boys, so I’d say nay.

HATCH/What 3 traits are you hoping your child inherits from you?
My love for family and friends, a quest to never stop learning and perseverance.

HATCH/What 3 trends are you currently loving?
Hoop earrings, wide-leg trousers and showing a sneaky mid-drift.

HATCH/ What pre-parent fashion trend do you hope makes a comeback in your closet someday (i.e. what do you miss, if anything)?
I’ve never given up on hair scrunchies.

HATCH/What bag are you currently carrying?
Ever since I had my first son, I almost always wear cross-body bags to keep my hands free for kids. My current favorite is a pale blue suede one by The Row.

HATCH/If you could only keep 5 things in your bag for you and baby/child, what would they be?
My sons’ Babiators, my own sunglasses (right now, a gray pair by Thierry Lasry), Blue Lizard sun block, headphones and Benetint liquid blush (the only beauty product I continue to use since high school…LOVE).

HATCH/Where was your last vacation and where will your next one be? Kids, please or kid-free?
Last summer, my husband and I traveled to Paris and the Loire Valley with friends (no kids), which was magical. Next month, my brother and his fiancé are getting married in London. We’re taking kids, as they’re page boys in the wedding!

HATCH/Top 3 ‘d0s’ for dressing during pregnancy.
Only wear what makes you feel both comfortable and beautiful. Invest in core, well-made pieces (a must for me was HATCH’s Luncheon Dress – I owned it in multiple colors!) and keep them on rotation. Style with fun or trendy shoes, jewelry and bags.
