Memory of you and your mother?

My Mom and I would rock in my rocking chair at night and sing songs before I went to bed.  I loved it so much that by the time that we stopped, my feet were almost hitting the ground when we rocked.

Wisdom from your mother…

My Mom always said that for any problem, there is an answer. I believe that is true which has been helpful both personally and professionally.  I have learned over the years not to rush the answer. It will come when it is ready.

Memory of your mom’s favorite self-care routine…

My Mom was a seeker.  She never gave up on living a happy fulfilled life, even when times got tough.  She always had a stack of books next to her bed and now I do too. For her the learning and growing never stopped, up until the day that she died.  I admire that so much.

As an adult, what do you cherish from your mom?

The list is so long!  I think about her all of the time and the many gifts that she gave me.  She made home a place that I always wanted to return to. And now when our kids are so happy to come home I feel so grateful to have been able to do the same. She taught me how to cook which is something I enjoy every day.  She approached her carreer as if anything was possible and gave me the confidence that I could do the same. She was a 1st gen college graduate who then got her MBA which was unusual at that time. My Mom was really an incredible woman.

Advice to your younger self…

Don’t ever sacrifice self care for success.  It is not necessary.

Daily beauty routine?

The more that I have learned about how to take good care of my skin, the better I am about doing it because it really makes a difference. I am very good about using my Clear Pure Radiance Face Oil, Renew Repair Serum and Antioxidant Booster every night.  And then Clear Pure Radiance Face Oil and Everyday Sheer Coverage every day. It is a pretty simple routine and I enjoy how the products smell and feel on my skin.

Moms are an integral part of your consumer base – what was your intention in creating your business, specifically as it relates to mothers?

So much of being a Mom is focused on thinking about and taking care of others.  I love being able to do the same for Moms. Offering them products that deliver results without toxins.  They deserve better and it feels so great to be making that happen.

Who is your mom role model?

I have so many Moms in my life who have inspired me along the way.  My friends, the amazing teachers at Marin Country Day School, they all helped me to trust, to never give up, and to be patient with the process.

If motherhood were a song, what would it be?

Happier Than The Morning Sun, Stevie Wonder

Biggest mom fail?

Blaming my kids for getting a cold because they ate too much sugar or didn’t get enough sleep.  Who wants to be blamed for a cold?

Greatest mom moment?

Having our kids and their friends stream through our house just as I had always hoped that they would.  My happiest times are when they are around and I am so glad that it is fun for them too.

One thing you said to your kid that you never thought you would?

Describing the benefits of tequila when you are feeling sleepy at a party (My oldest kids are 23!)

Something you do, that you said you’d never do before having kids?

Sit around with our friends or my husband talking about our kids.

What’s the last thing you bribed your kid to do?

I bribed my youngest daughter to clean out her room with a new pair of jeans.  She has the jeans, but the room? I need to collect!

That time your kid embarrassingly called you out on something in public…

When I was dancing to the music in the car and it was no longer okay.  Thankfully, it is now okay again.

What self-care routines do you hope to pass onto your own children?

To me the specific routine is not as important as regularly doing whatever they find nourishing.  I would never want them to put achievement ahead of taking good care of themselves.

What is one piece of advice you would share with NEW moms?

Expect the unexpected and trust.
