The Last Voyage of Summer

LET’S PROCESS IT TOGETHER: FALL IS HERE. ANOTHER (EPIC) SUMMER BITES THE DUST.

As warmer weather lingers, Max and I decided to take one last summer voyage to Porto Ercole, Italy with friends….and kiddos. Here’s how it went down: the plane ride was not ideal. As usual, iPad (for Cha), bottle (for Georgie), and a visit from the liquor cart fairy (for mama) made it all bearable. Once the plane wheels touched down, however, it was easy living: drives through rolling vineyards, a personal chef that made Big Night look like Olive Garden (so, so yum), and the company of dear, dear friends were incredible blessings.
The most glorious moments, though, were watching my daughters out of their element–in a new place, with new inspirations. They weren’t scheduled around the clock and they didn’t have set naps or bedtimes. And yet, they grew and thrived. As we watch our kids learn to read, or even to stand on their own, to write their names or say their first words, we are keenly aware of ‘milestones.’ But just as summer is passing and we approach the all-too-familiar milestone of a new school year, it’s easy to overlook the incredible things that transpired in the lazy sun.
As Max and I set out for a final leg of this trip, just us two to Marrakech (where countless inspirations awaited!), I had the distinct feeling that I’d already experienced the most awesome moments the vacation would offer. These next weeks will see us rushing our kids out the door, so let’s make sure to take a moment to appreciate everything they’ve learned on their journeys–far and not so far–because they often end up teaching us too. Here’s my list of most inspiring and inspired moments on vacation.

ALL THE LOVE XX
