WANDERLUST IS A REAL THING AND NOW, THANKS TO STEPHANIE STEINMAN AND HER BLOG LE POSTCARD, IT’S BECOMING PERSONAL (AND CRAZY STYLISH).
Ever wonder what other people order from room service? Or where do some of your favorite designers and editors really spend their summers? One part travel diary, one part packing essentials and one part It Girl curated vacation guide, consider Le Postcard a global passport to chic jet-setting. Its better than you could have imagined, take it from us.
For her favorite destinations, where she’s heading next and what Stephanie always orders from room service, read on.
I launched Le Postcard a year ago because I’m fascinated by the way people travel—how we all do it in the same way, yet in our own unique ways. I like travel from an insiders perspective—I love to know everyone’s ‘personal’ travel-habits (what luggage they use, what they wear on the plane, their favorite items to order from room service, which beauty essentials they never leave home without, etc). When I’m going to a new place I love insider tips from friends–where is the best place to stay, eat, shop, etc.
I’m based in Los Angeles (which is were I was born and raised), but my office is really global (airplanes, hotel rooms, beaches, ski chalets).
WHY ARE YOU HERE (ON EARTH):
I think I’m here to learn and push myself to try new things (I’m not always the most adventurous person), and hopefully inspire others along the way (geez, that answer sounds so ‘pagent-y, but it’s true!).
FIRST THING YOU DO IN THE MORNING/ LAST THING YOU DO BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP:
The first thing I do in the morning is: Lean over to give my boyfriend a kiss and then check my Instagram. I admit it: I’m totally addicted to ‘the gram!’
The last thing I do before going to sleep is: Take a bubble bath. I take a bath every night before going to bed. I like to climb into the sheets squeaky clean and smelling delicious. And just before I turn out the lights, no matter where I am in the world, I call or text my mom to say goodnight.
BEST MOMENT SO FAR AT YOUR BRAND/SITE/FOUNDATION/INSTITUTION:
The day I launched the site. Having an idea and actually making it happen are two very different things. Seeing my idea come to life has been so exciting and I’ve interviewed the coolest girls.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT WHAT YOU DO:
I get to travel for a living and see the world…there is nothing better! Trying new foods, seeing so many places I’ve read about, discovering new brands, products and hotels…it’s all so much fun! I also get to interview a very cool group of women—I learn personal tips and tricks from all of them.
WHAT’S ON THE HORIZON:
Lots of travel. I just got back from Italy last night, I’m going home to LA tomorrow for 24 hours, and then heading back to the east coast to go to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket…it’s going to be a busy week! I also want to do some cool collaborations with different brands and I’m writing a children’s book about travel (it’s so cute!).
WHERE OR FROM WHOM DO YOU TAKE INSPIRATION:
I get inspiration from all sorts of places—books, magazines, Instagram, movies – just the other day I was watching The Devil Wears Prada on the plane and suddenly I had a massive urge for a trip to Paris. I also love looking at old pictures of icons like Jackie Kennedy Onassis traveling through Europe—even her airport style was ridiculously chic!
BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED:
When in doubt always order the french fries from room service—they taste great in almost every country. I mean, it’s hard to mess up a french fry, right?!
FAVORITE DESTINATION THAT YOU’VE BEEN TO:
India! I went 4 years ago and it just grabbed a hold of my heart in a way I never imagined. If fact, I wasn’t too keen on the idea of going at all, but once I arrived, the colors, sounds, smells, people, decadent hotels, just washed over me and I fell in love. I had rose petals thrown at my feet, rode painted elephants through the streets, strolled through the flower and spice markets, saw the Taj Mahal…it truly was magic!
I also loved Tokyo. There is so much going on and so many people and yet it is all so civilized and organized. The food was exceptional–some of the best (and most expensive) meals I’ve ever had. I was there a week but it wasn’t nearly enough time and I can’t wait to go back.
THREE PLACES ON YOUR LIST FOR FUTURE TRAVELS:
Oh gosh, do I have to pick just 3?! I’m dying to go to Australia. I’ve heard only good things about the people there and I NEED to hold a koala bear at least once in my life! I also want to visit Morocco, Argentina, the Philippines. The list is long, my friends…
WHY ARE YOU DRAWN TO HATCH:
I love the simplicity that HATCH is all about. Especially the Plage collection—those pieces are so effortless (and soft!) and that’s really how I like to pack when I’m heading off to a beach vacation. It’s like you read my mind!
