FOUNDED/ESTABLISHED/BORN:
Recently launched Les Lolos blog for expat life and littleones in Paris by Ajiri Aki and Maggie Kim-Buñuel.
LOCATED:
Paris, France
WHY ARE YOU HERE (ON EARTH):
AA : Sometimes I feel like I am here on this Earth for my daughter Noomi to have someone to say “no!” to about everything. And then there are the days I know I am here to be this cheeky toddler’s mother and make sure she learns to say “yes” only when she means it, and “no” even when she doesn’t.
MK: I find meaning in turning the personal into the universal—whether it’s with writing, music or a conversation with someone. That’s how I feel connected to this planet and the people on it.

FIRST THING YOU DO IN THE MORNING/ LAST THING YOU DO BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP:
AA: First thing I do is hit the snooze on my alarm and wish I had more time to sleep. Then I inhale coffee and tiptoe past my toddler’s room to meditate. The last thing I do before going to sleep is terrible: check my Facebook and Instagram.
MK: First thing is give cuddles to my kids. My almost-3-year-old son stomps up the stairs far too early in the morning, then his big sister follows and they climb all over me and their papa until they manage to drag us out of bed to make them breakfast.
Last thing, sadly, is look at my iPhone to check emails and social media. Trying to break this habit and replace it with a half-hour of reading.
BEST MOMENT SO FAR AT YOUR BRAND/SITE/FOUNDATION/INSTITUTION:
AA: Everything for us is new and exciting so I can only imagine the best is yet to come. However right now I have to say shooting our first Maman profile was such a treat! I look forward to entering so many beautiful Paris apartments.
MK: When Ajiri showed me her/our business card. Hers arrived a couple days before mine and it was so gorgeous and official! I’ve always been a freelancer—and indie musicians carry demos—so it felt real and substantial to have our own (very beautiful) card.

What do you like best about what you do:
AA: My first years in Paris were tough, so I love that Les Lolos gives me the chance to rekindle the love I had with this city on my first college trip 15 years ago.

MK: The opportunity to connect with other women who are going through what I do (and did) as an expat and a mother. If I’m able to make their experience a little easier or happier, then I’m doing what I set out to do.
WHAT’S ON THE HORIZON:
AA: Naturally we cannot reveal too much, but we are working on a curated city guide and digital shorts about life in Paris.
MK: I want Les Lolos to be the go-to site for expats with kids. When people think of “Paris, moms, kids,” I want their next thought to be “Les Lolos.”

WHERE OR FROM WHOM DO YOU TAKE INSPIRATION:
AA: I take my inspiration from books. I get really excited when I walk into a library or bookstore. Homes with massive bookshelves make my mind race with thoughts. Just looking at rows upon rows of different colored book spines and then going to pull one out…oohh….I also get a lot of inspiration from simply walking the streets of Paris on a sunny day. It may sound cliché, but the buildings are so beautiful and the history is endlessly fascinating to me.
MK: I find inspiration from everyone, especially other mothers. No one’s perfect yet everyone does at least one thing pretty perfectly and I think that’s so beautiful. Frankly, every time I see Ajiri, I’m inspired to make more of an effort with my personal style or my home decor. I copy her all the time!
BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED:
AA: My mother always told me two things: “Nothing in life is free.” and “Fake it till you make it.”
MK: Two pieces of advice that I think are related: “Everything in its own time” and “this, too, shall pass.” In other words, patience is a virtue.
NAME YOUR TOP FIVE STYLE ICONS:
AA: 1. Dita Von Teese, 2. Shala Monroque 3. The Duchess of Windsor 4. Dorothy Dandrige  4. Miroslava Dumas
MK: 1. Debbie Harry 2. Bianca Jagger 3. Solange Knowles 4. Gwen Stefani 5. Rihanna (Yes, I love rockstars.)
WHY ARE YOU DRAWN TO HATCH:
AA: First of all ,who isn’t drawn to HATCH? I shop on the website now and I am not pregnant! Maternity clothing is generally hideous and like 90% of the maternity brands are extremely disappointing. It is so hard to find brands that know how to bridge the gap between comfort, expanding everything and style for preggo ladies. So many women say they just shop for regular clothes in bigger sizes, which doesn’t always work.  I love that HATCH cleverly thinks about style, silhouette, and they definitely know a thing or two about draping.
MK: I love how HATCH makes clothes that I’d wear even not-pregnant. It’s chic and essential and it’s so important for women to feel good about their style, even if they’ve put on over fifty pounds like I did with my second pregnancy.
